Disney Australia has collaborated with three inspiring role models to celebrate their stories as the kick-off to the ‘Dream Big, Princess’ campaign. The campaign aims to celebrate all the Princess characters at their active, determined, confident and empowered best, highlighting the positive impact these unforgettable stories have had on a generation of Australian women, whose inner princess is still dreaming.

Former mining engineer, marathon runner and burns survivor Turia Pitt joins award-winning Indigenous actress Miranda Tapsell and author, founder and editor-in-chief of Renegade Collective magazine, Lisa Messenger, as they share their stories of achievement to inspire parents and their children to Dream Big.

Logie award winning actress and star of Channel 9’s Love Child, actress Miranda Tapsell has long admired the aspiring attributes of the Disney Princesses.

“I’m a huge fan of Mulan, Tiana, Pocahontas and Jasmine – they each remind me of how much has been accomplished and how much more we can achieve,” Miranda said.

“Kindness, courage, determination and independence are all qualities that young girls can learn from the original Disney princesses and it’s these qualities that can help change the world.”

Turia Pitt’s story of survival epitomises human challenge and overcoming adversity. Suffering burns to 65 per cent of her body after being trapped by a grassfire during an ultra-marathon, the former mining engineer defied all the odds by learning to run again.

“Setting myself small but achievable goals got me through, as I was determined to not let my recovery be restricted by what others said I could and couldn’t do,” Turia said.

“I jumped at the chance to work with Disney on this campaign as I think it’s incredibly important for young girls to be inspired by other young women and see what can be achieved when you don’t give up.”

As part of the commitment to Dreaming Big Disney enlisted the talents and creativity of a small group of Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) film school graduates to help create three unique stories, with the group filming and editing a 90 second campaign video, set to launch across Disney’s AU/NZ social media channels from 11 May.

Following the initial campaign launch, Disney is encouraging social media users to share how they have dreamt big using #IDareToDreamBig, to inspire a community of parents to focus on empowering their daughters to understand that anything is possible.
