#Gas production technology is improving all the time. A gas well once took a week or more to drill but that can now be done in a matter of days. There are many factors taken into account when drilling a gas well, so time frames vary, but this time-lapse video courtesy of Santos shows a well north of Wallumbilla being completed in under 3 days. In general, the development of a gas field is now a much more rapid and less intrusive process than it has ever been.

GasFields Commission Queensland
Established as an independent statutory body in 2013, the Commission’s purpose is to manage and improve the sustainable coexistence of landholders, regional communities, and the onshore gas industry in Queensland. Our vision is to see thriving and inclusive communities flourish in areas of gas development, supported by respectful and balanced stakeholder relationships.
Drawing on its wealth of experience in the development of the gas industry and by collaborating with other relevant entities, the Commission provides a range of support to communities and landholders, primarily through education and engagement. This education and engagement occurs through direct contact with individual landholders and via Commission facilitated forums, information sessions, meetings, pop-up shops and workshops. It should be noted that the Commission does not engage in individual commercial negotiations between landholders and gas companies, but rather provides communities and landholders with the information and support they need to make informed decisions and achieve good outcomes.
If you are a landholder in Queensland the Commission strongly encourages you to download a copy of our flagship publication, The Gas Guide, to obtain all the information you need to negotiate a fair and reasonable outcome should a resource company request to operate on your land. The #GasGuide catalogues pertinent information that landholders need to know about the various stages of petroleum and gas development in Queensland – beginning with the advertisement and awarding of new exploration tenders (https://bit.ly/GFCQ-GasGuide).
If you have any questions regarding Queensland’s onshore gas industry, or you would like to receive a hard copy (ring binder) of The Gas Guide, please contact us directly via:
