In this first video - Luminous Efficiency and Why Its Important, I explain what luminous efficiency is and how it answers these questions: Are led grow lights better than HPS?, How much led power do I really need for my grow space?, and Why do some people get good results with leds and other not? It also shows you ( I wire some up and compare them) the difference between good leds and bad leds!

This is the first in a series of videos which are meant to de-mystify led grow lights. They will explain all aspects of led grow technology, from the very basics of leds themselves, led and led grow light power ratings and what they mean, constant current VS constant voltage power supplies and when to use them, different types of led lights (red/blue, full spectrum, COB etc.), spectrums, plant science, how to repair and upgrade your existing lights and anything else you want to know!

Here is a link to Wikipedia which is mainly about luminous efficacy (which is slightly different from luminous efficiency) but it does cover the efficiency of different light sources in the chart near the bottom.

In this video I have used average value for the efficiency of the different types of lighting. You can get fluorescent and HPS with higher efficiencies than I gave but they are expensive (electrodeless induction coupled fluorescent tubes for example) so I chose values closer to what most people use. Also the information on leds here seems to be outdated. Efficiencies for coloured leds have exceeded 50% for most of the wavelengths used in grow lights.
