Описание: Ramnagar Fish Market is the largest fish market in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is located in Secunderabad, along the road connecting Musheerabad to Ramnagar. Around 40 tons of fish are sold here on weekdays and 50 tons on Sundays. The market opens at 6 am, and by 8 am most of the merchandise is sold. There are many Fish Markets in twin cities but none as large as the Ramnagar Fish Market.

The attached photographs and video will give you an idea of this fish market.  As you can see, the market is untidy but the fish are very fresh and some are sold alive. People, individuals and other retail fishmongers throng this place in the early hours to choose from the large variety of fish available here at low prices.  

Variety of fish and seafood are brought to this market from nearby seashores and various other districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The list of fish available here is quite long…Murrel (mostly live), Rohu, Catla, Tilapia, Pomfret white and black, Seer (Vanjaram), Salmon from River and Sea, Kingfish, Shark (Sora), Anchovy (Nathneelu), Sardines (Chandamama), Eel, Mackerel (Bangda), Tuna, Red Snapper, Mullet, Bengal Carp, Platinum Pearl (Karimeen), Basa, Pink Perch, River and Sea Crabs (Blue crabs), large variety of prawns ranging from shrimps to small, medium, large and king size prawns and many more varieties unknown to me.

As carry bags are not available with the fish stalls, we have to carry our own bags. And to clean, scale, gut and cut the fishes, crabs and prawns in any form you want, there are a number of people who would approach you to do the job at a reasonable price. Their cleaning location is almost at the centre of the market, this you can see in the very last picture I have provided.

For fish and seafood lovers, this is a must place to visit in our city, not once but regularly, for trying out the large variety available here.

Hyderabad: The Ramnagar fish market, the largest fish bazaar in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, witnessed hordes of people thronging the place, flouting social distancing norms, on the eve of Mrigasira Karthi day. Even as the annual fish prasadam distribution by Bathini brothers on the Mrigasira Karthi day (falling on June 8) was cancelled this year, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fish market has become a ticking time bomb with crowds gathering to buy fish at this time of the year.

Mrigasira Karthi, considered auspicious by the Hindus, marks the beginning of the sun sign Mrigasira, and the end of summer. Consuming fish on this day is considered auspicious. People also make jaggery and asafoetida into balls and consume them, in the hope of boosting their immunity.

The annual fish prasadam distribution by the Bathini brothers in Hyderabad, a well-known practice that is known to cure asthma is scheduled on Mrigasira day. The distribution of this medicine has been cancelled this year, announced Bathini Harinath Goud on May 11.

Being one of the auspicious times of the year to consume fish, several citizens flocked to Ramnagar fish market on Sunday, only to find the market already crowded. A video of the market shows how people are standing close to each other, waiting for their turn at the fish vendors to buy their share.

Speaking to NewsMeter, Musheerabad station house officer T. Murali Krishna said, “We have received information of the crowds at Ramnagar fish market. We have deployed a few policemen in the area to ensure that citizens follow social distancing norms and the situation is under control.”
