Описание: Life expectancy is rapidly increasing, predominantly due to the success of modern medicine, which targets single diseases. As a result, we are growing older with multiple diseases, which eventually decrease the quality of life. Ageing is the most important risk factor for diseases at old age; in the past two decades researchers heavily invested in unraveling the ageing process. We are now in the position to target ageing 'as a disease' to prevent the occurrence of diseases. Ageing modifying interventions in animal models are now being tested in humans to prolong our healthy lifespan. A very promising development: Targeting health by treating ageing as a disease is the next step in modern medicine!
