Portland, Oregon proactive to protect trees from deadly Emerald Ash Borer infestations

Описание: Trees are one of the reasons so many people love living in the Pacific Northwest.

Take the ash tree, for example. A lot of people come to a park like Westmoreland Park to enjoy its beauty, its color and its shade. But there is something else that’s coming to enjoy the tree -- the Emerald Ash Borer. But a visit from this insect could be deadly to the tree.

Pretty in its own way, the Emerald Ash Borer doesn’t look that menacing.

“Once it shows up in a community, it can’t be eradicated, said Anya Moucha, the forest pest and pathogen coordinator for Portland Parks & Recreation. “Emerald Ash Borer is about 99% fatal if it infests tree.”
