Set across four levels and 12,000 sq ft, Grand Chateau is a Mumbai bungalow transformed from a 1979 industrial shell into a layered, light-filled residence. Designed by PKD Studio founder Prachiti Khanvilkar, the home unfolds as a sequence of spaces that balance restraint with luxury, where repetition becomes a design language rather than a limitation.
The residence unfolds as a thoughtful composition of formal and informal living rooms, expansive bedrooms, guest suites, a luxurious foyer with a mandir, and a gym that opens onto a verdant terrace. Each function is carefully placed to maintain visual continuity while allowing every zone its own character. The design avoids visual overload, relying instead on consistent materials and precise detailing to create a sense of depth, calm, and permanence throughout the four levels.
Wood veneer becomes the unifying element across the home, reinterpreted through dyed finishes, hybrid applications, textures, and fluted patterns. Curated from Venzo, the material appears in multiple forms yet maintains a consistent visual flow, proving how one material can shape many experiences.
Principal Architect Prachiti Khanvilkar takes us inside this carefully reimagined Mumbai home, where architecture, materiality, and light work together to create a timeless modern dwelling.
