This video describes research on the uncanny valley theory of animation that was conducted by one of my students, Kierstan Leaf, at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, in 2014.
Kierstan describes the research on the relationship between how realistic a "character" appears compared to whether people think the character is "normal" or "creepy." This line between normal and not normal is called the "uncanny valley". In this video Kierstan walks through her research and the results and the impact on animation and design.
