A day after the government of Pakistan announced that the Pakistan men’s cricket team will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 but boycott their Group A match against India in Colombo on February 15, former Pakistan skipper and legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi took to X to post a tweet via which he stated that it is regrettable that Pakistan won’t play India at the T20 World Cup 2026, but he stands behind the Pakistan government’s decision.
The member of Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup winning team also challenged the ICC to prove itself as impartial and fair to every member.
“I’ve always believed cricket can open doors when politics closes them. It’s regrettable that Pakistan won’t play India at the #T20WorldCup, but I stand behind my government’s decision. This is the moment for @ICC to lead and prove through decisions, not statements, that it is impartial, independent, and fair to every member," Afridi tweeted.
