How to clean an oriental rug using what you probably already have.... with the exception of a carpenters level, perhaps. Do not use a high pressure nozzle. I have the lowest pressure, and the truth is my father generally used a garden hose with a head attachment so he could shut the water off at the hose end, not the faucet.
My BIL gave some info on dyes: When I cleaned rugs for Moses, the main thing was to use plenty of water which protected the rug against dye bleed...it doesn't prevent it from happening, but it keeps it from staining lighter colors until you can squeegee out and then vacuum out the excess water. If you notice any dye in the water, then you can't fold the rug over nor roll it up while its drying or it will offset and you'll have a difficult mess that'll be hard to rectify without the proper chemicals.
