Описание: After paying obeisance at the Nandikeshwari Shakti Peeth located in Sainthia town of Birbhum district, our tour of Shakti Peethas in West Bengal brought us to Tarapith Temple. It is a 13th-century Hindu temple located in Tarapith, Birbhum, West Bengal, India, dedicated to the Hindu Goddess "Tara".
Goddess Tara is considered one of the 10 Mahavidyas in Hinduism.
Tarapith Temple is specifically situated near the town of Rampurhat on the banks of Dwarka river.
It is a famous tantric peeth, just like Kamakhaya Temple in Guwahati Assam.

The idol of Goddess Tara which is made for the darshan of devotees is her fierce form, with four arms, a garland of skulls and a protruding tongue. The outer image of the Goddess, adorned with a silver crown and flowing hair, is draped in a sari and decorated with garlands of marigold and red hibiscus flowers and a silver parasol is placed on her head.
The Tarapitha Temple in Birbhum, West Bengal has a sacred pond called the "Kund" or "Jeevita Kund" (meaning "Pond of Life"). Devotees take a holy dip in this pond before entering the temple premises to purify themselves and perform puja. The water of the pond is believed to have healing powers and is considered a source of spiritual purification.
Apart from the temple, Tarapitha is also associated with the mystic saint Bamakhepa ji, who is said to have had intense spiritual experiences in this area. Born in 1837 AD, Bamakhepa came to Tarapith temple at a very young age, and came under the protection of a saint named Kailashpati Baba, who lived in Tarapith.
He acquired proficiency in yoga and tantric sadhana (worship), as a result of which he became the spiritual head of Tarapitha and remained there until his death in 1911.

For rest of the day, temple remains open from 06:00 AM to 09:00 pm
Temple remains closed only for two hours from 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm
