LINER NOTES

Another one of my Morpheus downloads with no accreditation, Nelson’s Riddle (my title), reminded me of Nelson Riddle’s style. Got that cool 60s movie/tv theme feel. The American composer/arranger was highly successful during the 50s, 60s and 70s. He hit his stride doing arrangements for Nat King Cole’s biggest hit, Mona Lisa. He went on to do arrangements for Sinatra, Judy Garland, Dean Martin & many others; as well as appearances with his orchestra on the Rosemary Clooney Show (George’s mother); compose movie soundtracks (the original Oceans 11, The Great Gatsby) and compose his own hit singles and albums - including the theme to the hit 60s TV show, Route 66. This song reminds me of that.


The upload onto my Slice AH Life channel with the title Nelson's Riddle has drawn the official accreditation from the rights holders. Title, artist, album and year of release now appear in the official info below the art. This 2001 Soulstance remix was originally from another prominent composer of the 60s, Lalo Schifrin, who like Riddle, did a ton of movie and TV show themes including the Theme from Mission: Impossible, the scores to Cool Hand Luke (1967), Bullitt (1968), THX 1138 (1971), Enter the Dragon (1973) and Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry series of films.

This Soulstance remix also incorporates a unique bass and rhythm line with complex time signatures that echo Amon Tobin’s 1996 song, Apollo (recorded under the name Cujo). You can hear Apollo on the Slice compilation, Strange Journey, as well as on Hotel Costes - Étage 3.
