On September 11, 1968, The Beatles recorded 34 attempts at the basic rhythm track for Glass Onion.
Take 33 was selected as the best performance and became the basis for the final recording. This basic track shows the band in a raw and focused condition before the inclusion of strings, sound effects, and later overdubs.
The take stars John Lennon on acoustic guitar, Paul McCartney on bass, George Harrison on lead guitar, and Ringo Starr on drums. Without its last orchestration, the take reveals things we thought were lost, with Lennon and McCartney's voices shouting and demanding from beyond the studio walls.
Before Martin added his string arrangement, Chris Thomas with his recorder giving a great reference, additional drums by Ringo, vocals by John, and haunting piano by Paul, this recording offers a distinctive insight into the heart of the song, exposing its shape and mood.
