To do this process, you do need a design program (like Silhouette) that you can use to save SVG files. Inkscape is a free alternative. If you want to use Silhouette, you will need the Business Edition.
Then to convert the SVG to an embroidery file, I used Embrilliance Stitch Artist Level 2 and Embrilliance Essentials.
