I thought the ice was going to swallow us both. ❄️🦊
I was ice fishing in the middle of nowhere when I heard desperate crying. A tiny arctic fox kit was struggling in freezing water... and a massive orca was circling beneath her.
I grabbed my net and ran across cracking ice. I got her just as the orca surfaced right where she'd been.
We spent the entire night together in an ice cave by a small fire. She was so scared, shaking in my arms, barely breathing.
When the sun came up, I heard her mother calling from a ridge. I set her down and watched them touch noses and disappear together into the white landscape.
