These are barking deer. These barking deer are found orphaned and injured in various places and are currently being reared in the Sisaghari Wetland and Wildlife Rescue, Treatment and Rehabilitation Center located within the Sisaghari Community Forest at Katari in Udaipur district of Nepal.
The male has horns but the female does not. The barking deer is found in the forests from the Terai to the Himalayas in Nepal. A child can be born from the intercourse of barking deer and spotted deer. The barking deer gets its name from its distinct loud bark-like calls, particularly common during mating season.
The barking deer holds an important ecological role in Nepal's forests as a browser, feeding on leaves, grass, fruit, seeds, and flowers. As a key prey species, it also serves as a food source for predators like leopards, tigers, wild dogs, and pythons.
