Modoc Indian War - Lava Beds National Monument

Описание: The battleground for the Modoc Indian War is in Lava Beds National Monument. I walk through the site now called Captain Jacks Stronghold.

The Modoc War took place between November, 1872 and June, 1873. The Modoc were incredibly outnumbered by U.S. forces and in the end, the Modoc were forced to surrender. Kintpuash (aka Captain Jack) and three other Modoc warriors were executed on Oct 3, 1873.

After the war, all the other Modocs who participated in the war were taken to Oklahoma and held as prisoners of war and not allowed to return to Tulelake until 1909.
