Metal music serves so many great purposes - of course many think of it as an outlet for anger, stress, and other negative emotions, but metal that puts an emphasis on melody can do this as well as express loads of other emotions.
I’ve spent the last few years finding bands that are the heaviest of the heaviest. But I have to give credit to the bands that helped shape my metal palette along the way. Metal that emphasizes melody might take away from heaviness in some peoples’ opinions, but I want to share with you some bands that have constantly put chills through my spine. And when put that way, melodic metal is heavy in its own sort of way… This list does not discriminate across subgenres - the only requirements are melodic, and heavy. You’ll see melodeath, metalcore, progressive, and more in this list.
