Horse Hoof Fungus:
Mushroom Foraging is a great passion of mine, but today I'm not after edibles.
I am in search of the elusive Horse Hoof Fungus (Fomes Fomentarius) False tinder fungus.
This is a fantastic bracket fungus that live for decades on the host trees of Birch, Beech and Sycamore.
Like many of the polypore brackets there are many medicinal uses for the horse hoof fungus. However I want this for Bushcraft tinder and a firelighting and Mycology demo I have coming up.
I really enjoyed foraging for amadou tinder in this one and it was great to get out to nature again and find so many brilliant medical mushrooms too.
