Nelliyampathy- Part 01
With an altitude ranging from 467 m to 1572 m, Nelliyampathy is a pristine hill station located in Palakkadd District of Kerala. This hill station is 60 km away from Palakkad and around 120 km away from Coimbatore.
Nemmara is the foothill of Nelliyampathy Hills. The drive from Nenmara to Nelliyampathy is breath-taking, providing, spectacular views of the Pothundy dam from many angles, heights and viewpoints on the way.
The ghat road which starts from Pothundi towards Nelliyampathy is a picturesque view, with lush greenery and hills on both sides. When the cool breeze, hits your face, you'will realize, why it is necessary, to escape the city life, once in a while, and enjoy the tranquility of mother nature.
You have to pass through ten hair pin bends in the Ghat sector.
You can see the beauty of Pothundi Dam and Western Ghats, at a higher elavation, from each hair pin bend and also from other points.
There are many small waterfalls and streams, in between.
You can spot monkeys, throughout the view points.
If you have luck, then you can also spot wild animals, especially Elephants.
The area is surrounded by thick forest, covered by teak and private rubber plantations.
The road is narrow and it is recommended that, one, who drives the vehicle, should be experienced, to drive in such roads.
The cloud-caressed peaks, verdant teak forests, fascinating wildlife, and relaxed vibe of the place, hypnotises you, into forgetting your busy schedule, and getting lost in the many turns, and lanes of the town.
The place is witnessing rush of birdwatchers, and wildlife photographers, to get a snap of the majestic beauty.
There is a forest check post on the way, and you need to take permission, to enter Nelliyampathy, by providing them your vehicle number and your total team strength. There is a Vanashree Eco Shop, near by.
Forest Department, been restricted entry, from 6.30 AM till 3 PM, for day visiters. but there is no restriction for others.
There are few Hotels and Resorts, available at Nelliyampathy town, and also inside the dence forest. Off Road jeep ride is must, to reach forest resorts.
