Wild Thing - 5 electric dulcimers

Описание: 5 electric dulcimers decided to have a party in my basement, and they invited. me. 😃 That's the perfect number of dulcimers to play "Wild Thing," and so we did.

The Troggs' classic, performed here by Sam Edelston, proud to add my name to the list of artists who have covered this song -- everybody from Jimi Hendrix to the Muppets. I sometimes use this song to demonstrate how easy it is to play rock music on the dulcimer. However, in this particular case, I've complicated it so much that I had to figure out a few totally new techniques and get creative with my electronics.

Indeed, dulcimers are natural rock instruments. I regularly say that they're among the world's coolest musical instruments, and they deserve to be known by the general public - the way that everybody knows guitars and ukuleles. Though usually associated with old folk songs and tunes, dulcimers are great for a shocking variety of modern music, too. I do these videos to inspire more people to play and listen to dulcimer music, in diverse, non-traditional styles.

The song is played in the key of A. All dulcimers are in 1-5-8 tuning, capoed as needed. From left to right:

E chord ... John Knopf solid-body, DAD, capoed up a step.
D chord ... Rod Matheson, DAD.
A chord ... Bear Meadow baritone, AEA.
C chord ... Bear Meadow 4-string baritone, AEAA, capoed up a step and a half.
"Stringed ocarina" ... Rod Matheson, DAD, capoed up a fifth to A.

The four main dulcimers run together through a preamp into a single channel going to a Roland amp on "Classic Rock" setting.

The "ocarina" solo dulcimer has two channels. Channel A goes through Electro-Harmonix Mellotron (Mel9) and Synthesizer (Synth9/"EHX Mini") emulator pedals. Channel B has some overdrive and chorus. Both channels go into amp #2.

My vocal mic goes to amp #3.
