“And I knew in my spirit, and I said it out loud with my mouth. Our breakthrough has come. And glory to God, the destruction – the final takedown – of this synthetic virus that has been made by men as a weapon, has…has fallen. It's destroyed.”

When, 20 months ago, Kenneth Copeland turned a firehose of germ-laden saliva on the camera and his cameraman and boldly pronounced a permanent destruction on COVID-19, the hero worshiping followers of the self-acclaimed prophet jumped for joy and shouted “Hallelujah!” With a fervency as unshakable as Mount Zion, these dyed-in-the-wool fans of the false prophet believed God Himself had spoken and COVID was finally over and never ever to return.

Well, fast forward to December 2021. Fifty million more cases of COVID have been confirmed and 800,000 more people have sadly died. Lo and behold, Kenneth Copeland continues to make outlandish pronouncements and his fantastical proclamations have not ceased. The man has shown zero sense of godly introspection or remorse, and his gullible followers continue to believe the faux visions and pseudo-prophetic declarations.

Contrary to Uncle Kenny's assurances, COVID-19 rages on. The deadly virus is unmoved by the empty words, the bloviating means jack to the rampaging disease, and the fanaticism of unthinking disciples hasn't stopped the spread of, or death from, the infection.

In fact, more deadly variants have since evolved despite Copeland's saliva showers. We've now gone from alpha, beta, and gamma to delta, mu, and omicron, with each succeeding variant being more transmissible and/or more virulent than the previous. It’s as though SARS-CoV-2 is mocking the prophet of Baal, and it appears as if the virus is laughing the High Priest of Mammon to scorn.

This is how we know a false prophet.

“If the prophet speaks in the LORD’s name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the LORD did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared.” (Deuteronomy 18:22).

This is what all false prophets do.

“The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries, and the delusions of their own minds.” (Jeremiah 14:14).

And this is what we are supposed to do with false prophets:

“Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:16).

False prophets are peddlers of false hope and purveyor of unrealistic expectations. Shun them and pay no heed to their lies.
