With taped seams, it's water tight, air tight and the inch of rigid foam on the back provides the first layer of R-6 continuous insulation outside the studs. The ZIP's air barrier allowed us to use less expensive dense-packed fiberglass insulation in the 2x6 walls. The fiberglass also offers a higher R value, R-23, bringing the wall system to a hefty R-29 of insulated glory. Georgia summers...bring the heat.
