Mito Downtown Revitalization Project (M-PRO)

Описание: The Mito Downtown Revitalization Project was initiated in 2015 By Yoshito Hori who at the sight of his rundown hometown decided he wanted to give back. He met with the city mayor and after some discussion, they—together with around 50 other people—initiated the Downtown Mito Revitalization Project which kicked off in 2016.

The project has five main objectives:
1. to have five times the number of visitors
2. double the number of residents
3. repurpose unused/vacant land and shops downtown
4. create a new local media platform
5. to develop a compact city

By creating a replicable model for revitalization, the hope is that these methods can be applied to other regions in Japan.

There are 10 projects completed or underway!

1. Ibaraki Robots (Basketball team)
2. GLOBIS University Mito Campus
3. M-SPO (sports center/gymnasium for local talents, including basket training)
4. M-WORK (a place for entrepreneurs of all ages to meet and exchange ideas)
5. M-HISTORY (book project done by a Harvard graduate on the history of Mito)
6. M-TRAD (an initiative to maintain, share, and pass on traditional performing arts)
7. M-ART (supporting young artists in a variety of expressive activities)
8. M-GARDEN (event space/conference hall/wedding venue)
9. Ibaraki Broadcasting System (First prefecture wide broadcasting company)
10. M-LAKE (a place of rest and relaxation by Lake Senba)
