How I Paint a miniature Portrait - oils on paper

When I paint my miniature portraits, I like to use oil paint on paper (Arches Oil Paper) and apply them like you would paint using watercolours. That is, to paint using thinned-down washes on paint, starting with the lighter hues first and building up the layers, gradually getting darker to reach to desired value levels.
Painting on paper gives a soft and subtle transition between edges, values and hues and a soft focus photographic effect to the paintings.
