Zeppelin is a contemporary neoclassical percussion ensemble work by Ronni Kot Wenzell, originally composed for solo piano in 2024 and later arranged for modern percussion ensemble by Aaron Locklear. Featuring marimba, vibraphone, and a wide palette of percussion instruments, Zeppelin explores a floating sound world inspired by the image of a zeppelin drifting silently through the sky — lighter than air.

With transparent textures, gentle harmonic motion, and spacious musical phrasing, the piece creates a calm yet expressive atmosphere rooted in modern classical music. The work reflects the aesthetics of contemporary neoclassical composition, combining lyrical piano writing with the colorful timbres of a contemporary percussion ensemble.

Shortly after the piano version was released on streaming platforms, Aaron Locklear created a new percussion ensemble arrangement designed to preserve the intimacy and poetic character of the original neoclassical piano composition. At the same time, the arrangement expands the sonic possibilities of the music through the rich colors of marimba, vibraphone, and auxiliary percussion.

Through a broad and imaginative use of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments, this modern classical percussion ensemble version transforms Zeppelin into a rich sonic landscape with greater spatial depth and timbral nuance.
