This video demonstrates a taping technique using Defining Motion Nylon K-Tape to help support medial knee pain by providing sensory input to the nervous system. The aim of this technique is to assist internal rotation of the proximal tibia relative to the distal femur, where excessive tibial external rotation may be contributing to symptoms.
The tape is applied along the tibia to offer consistent sensory feedback rather than forcing a position. This feedback can help support more efficient movement strategies during daily activity, training, or rehabilitation.
This taping approach works best when used alongside appropriate soft tissue work. Before applying tape, it is often important to address areas of concentrically oriented or overactive musculature that may be influencing tibial position. These can include regions of the lower leg, upper leg, pelvis, and thorax. Common areas to assess may include the vastus lateralis, the medial and lateral gastrocnemius, foot position, and the movement of the centre of gravity over the base of support.
Before applying, ensure the skin is clean and dry, free of moisturisers, oils, or excessive hair, to allow the adhesive to bond effectively.
Designed and guided by a movement professional.
