Africa's Fastest-Growing Meaningless Economies

In 2025, six African nations surged into the ranks of the world's ten fastest-growing economies: South Sudan, Libya, Senegal, Sudan, Uganda, and Niger. Take South Sudan, for example, which claimed the impressive second spot. With a total GDP of about $3.9 billion and a population of 12 million, even a single-year gain of $800 million would catapult its growth by more than 20 per cent.

Now picture Denmark, a country of 6 million people and a $431 billion GDP, pocketing an extra $10 billion in a year. That is just a modest 3% bump. Meanwhile, South Sudan boasts a flashy 20% leap, at least on paper. This is the magic of so-called 'peanut economies'—they can dazzle with big percentage jumps. Even my humble piggy bank enjoys a 30% boost some weeks, since adding 30 pence to a pound is a whopping 30% gain.

Of the world's top brands, almost none are designed for Africans or the African market. First, the world's manufacturers and inventors do not have Africa in mind when designing or creating products. Secondly, Black Africa has a bad reputation; poverty, corruption, wars, tribal conflict, senseless leadership, and a near total absence of the rule of law. It is no longer news that 1.4 billion Black Africans can't even make paracetamol without foreign partnership or foreign companies establishing in Africa to produce it locally.

Africa's total arable land is 874 million hectares (8.74 million sq km), of which 65% is still uncultivated. The Netherlands has only 1 million hectares of arable land, yet it exports significantly more high-value agricultural goods than the entire African continent. This level of incompetence should not be taken lightly. No more coddling Africans like pets; it is time to tell them how much they have failed, and if they have any brain cells left, it should compel them to go back to the drawing board.
