The decision to remove the chrome clads was a simple one of maintenance and lower cost for balancing. The chrome clads are accelerating the corrosion of the wheel edges by holding salt and dirt. The wheels had heavy pitted corrosion.
I removed them with a simple pry bar and a hammer in about two minutes for each wheel. After removal I power washed them and then wire wheeled them to remove the silicone adhesive. I also removed the corrosion, but only a quick cleaning
Part two of the series will involve bead blasting and cleaning. Then I will apply primer and then paint them. Once painted they will be re-balanced and re-installed on the edge.
