Emerald Lake Rd/Lake Park Rd Level Crossing, Emerald

Описание: This is the Emerald Lake Rd/Lake Park Rd level crossing in Emerald, on the Puffing Billy railway, with footage I took in May 2018, January and November 2019, August and October 2022, March, June and September 2023, and January, February, May and June 2024

In 2018 and 2019, this crossing had:

A McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell

Westinghouse cross-arms

Marked incandescent Westinghouse lights

An additional signal further down the south side to alert drivers of the coming crossing

By 2022, this crossing received a minor upgrade. All incandescent globes were replaced with LED's. The rest of the crossing remains unchanged, except for the additional signal further down the south side, which is now missing it's cross-buck, and the yellow crossing warning signs on the south side, which were both removed when the road was widened and the Lakeside Visitor Centre opened

In 2022, Puffing Billy was donated old crossing equipment from the Clyde Rd level crossing in Berwick after it was grade separated. According to an article from around that time, this equipment is to be used at this level crossing to upgrade it from flashing lights to boom gates. This equipment is currently sitting in storage at Gembrook, and no announcement has been made on when it will be installed

In one of the shots I took, the train from Gembrook had to wait at a signal just east of the crossing before it could travel into Lakeside station. It had to wait there for 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it had travelled far enough across the track to trigger the axel counters, and the crossing activated. The crossing remained activated for the entire time. As the crossing still doesn't have boom gates yet, many cars got impatient waiting for the train to come and irresponsibly drove through the warning lights. This is very dangerous, and an example of what NOT to do in this kind of situation
