What’s your duplicate comic strategy? Do you buy two direct editions, two newsstand copies, or mix and match one for reading and one for collecting? In this episode of Duplicate Comics, Mike from MCollins Comics breaks down three Marvel issues and explains why collectors sometimes buy the same comic book twice.
In Video 46 of the Duplicate Comics series, we look at classic Marvel Comics from the late 80s and early 90s, featuring Thor, the Avengers, Juggernaut, and Thunderstrike. Mike also talks about condition differences, story highlights, and why these issues ended up as duplicates in his collection.
📚 Comics Featured in This Episode:
• The Mighty Thor 398 – “Prisoners of the Black Pyramid”
Thor battles through the mysterious Black Pyramid while the enchantment on Mjolnir fails to return the hammer to him. The issue also features Grog the God Crusher and explores the source of Seth’s predictive powers through Anansi. Mike shows two copies of this issue and discusses their rough condition and why he may upgrade later.
• The Mighty Thor 421 – “If Men Are Gods” (1990)
Part of the Black Galaxy Saga, this issue features Eric Masterson as Thor, the Avengers, and a conflict involving Hercules. Mike compares duplicate copies and highlights why this one may stay in his collection as-is due to its better condition.
• Thunderstrike 2 – “Family Matters” (1993)
Thunderstrike teams with the Black Knight while investigating the mysterious Bloodaxe, which begins whispering to him about future events. The issue also features a clash with Juggernaut, reminding everyone why he’s considered unstoppable.
Along the way, Mike talks about:
✔ Why collectors buy duplicate comic books
✔ Comparing comic book condition between copies
