The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak comes in many flavors, and gold with complications is a rare one. As the undisputed icon of Audemars Piguet since 1972, the Royal Oak and all of its iterations carry the flag for this leg of the the Swiss "Holy Trinity" of horology.
This Audmars Piguet Royal Oak Day-Date 25594BA features a day-date-moonphase on a traditional Royal Oak "tapisserie" hobnail dial. Even the dial has a pedigree; it's a product of Stern Creations, the dial specialists founded by Patek Philippe's own dynasts. Between 1972 and 2012, this elite source provided the dials for each AP Royal Oak.
The movement itself is another study in high horology. Based on an ultra-thin JLC auto-winding caliber jointly developed with Audemars Piguet, the exquisitely-finished movement is an engine worthy of a legend like the Royal Oak. A Dubois Depraz calendar module (AP code 2810) allows all indications to be set from the crown and preserves the handsome brushed flanks of the Royal Oak.
And these are handsome flanks. The Royal Oak was designed by superstar watch stylist Gerald Genta in 1972, and his vision remains intact within this Royal Oak Day-Date 25594. The combination of an integrated case and bracelet highlight the periphery, and the main event is the octagonal bezel inset with white gold bolts. Alternating brushed and polished facets bring the surface of this Royal Oak to life in dramatic fashion.
