Peru, Indiana, known as the Circus Capital of the World, homes the Peru Amateur Circus that’s been around since 1960. Each summer, this circus presents 10 performances by approximately 200 young people, varying between the ages of 7 to 21. These thrilling performances take place annually during the eight day festival in mid-July, where the level of skill belies the fact that these performers are all amateurs. Despite all the changes over the decades, it still holds an ongoing legacy and keeps the history alive by continuing traditions and performances annually through this one-of-a-kind local circus.
