Why 90% of Russian Soldiers Died in Grozny

Описание: On December 31st, 1994, Russian armored columns drove casually into the city of Grozny expecting the Chechen defenders to surrender at the sight of them. Within 60 hours, almost every one of those vehicles would be burning wrecks and their crews would be gone, wounded, or captured in one of the worst urban warfare disasters in modern military history.

This video covers how a frantically assembled force of young conscripts with no urban combat training drove in parade formation into a city where Chechen fighters had prepared three concentric defense rings around the presidential palace. You'll learn why the 131st Brigade parked their tanks in neat rows at the railway station without securing the surrounding buildings, how the Chechens had worked out tactics around every weakness of Russian armor, and why tanks that couldn't elevate their guns above the fourth floor or depress them into basements were surrounded by RPG teams firing from exactly those positions.

It covers the chaos that followed: unencrypted radios the Chechens could monitor, street signs switched to confuse the Russians, friendly fire estimated at 60% of all casualties, and Chechen fighters in Russian uniforms who got two Russian units fighting each other for six hours. By January 3rd, the 131st had lost 789 men and 102 of 120 armored vehicles. Russia proportionally lost more tanks in Grozny than in the Battle of Berlin.
