Sasha was originally planned to die heroically while saving a young girl named Kaya from a Titan using only a bow and arrow in Attack on Titan.
When Hajime Isayama’s editor read the storyboards for this chapter, he was reportedly very emotional and later asked Isayama to keep Sasha alive. He felt that her death was too abrupt and did not have enough impact for her character at that point in the story.
As a result, the planned events for Chapter 36 were changed to the version that was published. After that, Sasha has no presence in the remainder of the Clash of the Titans arc, up to Chapter 51. However, her absence was made up for in the anime.
