Restoration and Changes to my 1968 el Camino SS 396 from 1990 to 2022

Описание: Unfortunately, I do not have documentation video or pictures of all the changes that I made since purchasing it in 1989. Like a photo of it when I purchased it in its original unmolested state for instance. It was all original down to the SS396 hubcaps, dealer installed bedrails and a trailer hitch that I immediately discarded. The only things really wrong with it was the factory camshaft that had some worn-down lobes, which I had heard was a common problem for some reason. And the seat and carpet definitely needed attention.

I then started to make big changes to this rare vehicle of 1 of 5,190 produced, and one of 288 that came with the 350hp L34 396 with a TH400 automatic transmission. Changes such as starting to paint it red instead of the factory Ermine White color, the addition of a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter with a built manual valve body transmission, replacing the Quadrajet carburetor with a 750 Holley, switching from a points distributor to electronic ignition, switching from the 7-blade factory clutch fan to dual electric cooling fans, the addition of Hooker headers, etc.....

The engine has gone through multiple change such as. different camshaft profiles, carburetors, intake manifolds and the addition of headers and back to stock exhaust manifolds. The rear gears started off with the factory 3.07 set, then were immediately changed to 3.90, after a number of years I changed them back to 3.07 and then to 3.55 where they are now. Had I had a smart plan and direction with this vehicle in the beginning, I would not have nearly the amount of money into it as I do today.

As I got older, I started to realize that it would be better for the value of this vehicle and ease of maintenance to put it back mostly to its stock configuration the way it is now. I produced this video not only for any interested viewers and el Camino fans, but for the future owner of this fine muscle truck when I decide to sell it one day.
