Capt. Matt Brewer died by suicide in February 2021 after suffering from CTE and PTSD symptoms. Brewer was an All-American football player for The United States Naval Academy and a champion boxer for the Navy Midshipmen. He went on to serve as a captain in the United States Marine Corps. Brewer returned from service and struggled with his memory, depression, paranoia and other symptoms of CTE.
The Concussion Legacy Foundation launched Project Enlist to find answers for veterans and their families like the Brewers. Brain bank research is an essential step to developing effective diagnoses and treatments for TBI, CTE, and PTSD during life so we can protect and support the heroes who courageously fight for our nation.
