We shot this on September 7th, our first day of shooting in Nashville, TN. We really lucked out with Austin and Zach, we had heard them play the night before at Skinny Dennis - we had an opening and they were game. Ignoring the humidity and onslaught of mosquitos, I think we made something really special at Edwin House - a location that very quickly becomes a staple of our Nashville Sessions.
I was initially very nervous about shooting in TN, I wasn't too sure what the environment was going to be like. I remember telling Gabe and Justin the night before this very video that I wasn't sure if my work was going to be good enough for Nashville players, I mean it's THE city for this kind of stuff. But, I think it worked out, it's work I'm very happy with and proud of, and there wasn't a single musician that looked at those monitors that wasn't happy with what we were doing.
Additionally, we grew incredibly impressed with the quality, professionalism, and hospitality of all the musicians we met and shot with.
Some of my favorite sessions and songs are going to come out from this trip. I can't wait for you to see all of them.
Lyrics:
I stand here on the corner
Trading songs for your spare change
I spread a pretty smile
Across my sunken face
And I try to hide my sorrow
But darling all the while
I’m just standing on the corner
Singing sad songs with a smile
My dear if you’d have told me
You’d be gone in two years time
I never would’ve listened to your dirty rotten lies
By now I thought we’d have tied the knot
And be walking down the aisle
But instead I’m on the corner
Singing sad songs with a smile
My mother says
“Oh cheer up honey, don’t you be so blue”
But Momma, can’t you see me
Smiling, too-da loo
Oh you know those can’t be tear drops
All across the bathroom tile
So I’ll keep standing on the corner
Singing sad songs with a smile
I stand here on the corner
Trading songs for your spare change
I spread a pretty smile
Across my sunken face
And I try to hide my sorrow
But darling all the while
I’m just standing on the corner
Singing sad songs with a smile
