What Created Six Schizophrenic Brothers?

In the 1950s the Galvins moved to Colorado Spring and raised twelve children; ten boys and two girls. Both parents were highly educated and well thought of in the community. But, inside the home, things were catapulting downhill as one boy after another became schizophrenic until a total of six of the brothers were mentally unstable and creating havoc within the family.

The last child, Mary Rauch, says her parent, along with being "the most highly educated parents in the world" were also "the kindest in the world. She participated in a MAX documentary (she now regrets) because she believes her brothers' schizophrenia is totally genetic and her parents were portrayed terribly in the film as if they were at fault for the collapse of half the family.

Is Mary right or was there something amiss in the parenting that caused or contributed to the boys' mental declines into madness?

The four-part series, "Six Schizophrenic Brothers" is now on MAX.

I also read a book on the case," Hidden Valley Road" by Robert Kolker" so I could get deeper into whole family and how things played out. It added needed information.
