Fishing the UK’s barbel Mecca with a Trent EXPERT

Описание: It's the middle of a cold, wet winter in the UK, but I rolled the angling dice and decided to risk a 320-mile round trip to fish for barbel on the mighty River Trent. The first day of my weekend away saw me fish a new stretch of the middle Trent, which proved enjoyable but tough. So, with 24 hours left to gamble with, I switched to a more familiar stretch on the tidal reaches of the river.

Collingham Angling Association's famous day ticket stretch of the Trent has become a BARBEL Mecca in recent years, and somewhere I've grown to love after discovering the fantastic fishing on offer around two years ago. Yet this visit was tinged with sadness, because Ky Morton, the long standing, friendly and ever helpful Collingham bailiff, wouldn't be there to collect my money as usual.

Instead, he was stuck in a nearby hospital, after suffering a massive stroke before Christmas. He is currently paralysed down one side, meaning a true Trent ICON is out of action and facing a long road to recovery.

Jack Harmer, who runs the Real River Trent Facebook page, is a lifelong Trent lover and barbel EXPERT. So I was delighted to enjoy his company for the day, as we both tried to land a winter bar of gold. We also discussed our Trent addictions and what makes this huge, industrial river special. Including characters like Ky, who add so much to the river's rich angling community.

Join us, and other friendly Collingham faces, as we do our best to bank a barbel and also raise money to support Ky and his family through this unexpected challenge. The weather may be miserable but the company was anything but!
