ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. The term is used to describe tingly sensation generally felt in the head and neck area. Most people describe the tingling as very relaxing and even help with sleep. 😴

How to make the hat:

Yarn: Worsted weight (Category 4) yarn — about 200–250 yards.
(Something soft like Caron Simply Soft, Red Heart Soft, or Lion Brand Heartland makes a nice drape.)

Hook: 5.5 mm (I/9) crochet hook (go up or down a size depending on how tight/loose you crochet).

Notions: Scissors, yarn needle, optional pom-pom.

📏 Finished Size

Fits an average adult head: 20–22 inches circumference.

Height: about 8 inches for a beanie, 9–10 inches for a slouchy hat.

✨ Pattern (US Terms)

Start at the crown and work in rounds. Do not turn. Join each round with a slip stitch unless noted.

1. Magic Ring, Round 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), make 12 dc into the ring. Join. (12 sts)


2. Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around. Join. (24 sts)


3. Round 3: Ch 2, dc in first st, 2 dc in next st — repeat around. Join. (36 sts)


4. Round 4: Ch 2, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st — repeat around. Join. (48 sts)


5. Round 5: Ch 2, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st — repeat around. Join. (60 sts)


6. Round 6: Ch 2, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st — repeat around. Join. (72 sts)



👉 Stop increasing when the crown measures about 6.5–7 inches across (that’s the right width for an adult). If your gauge is different, adjust by adding or stopping increases sooner.

7. Body (Rounds 7–14): Ch 2, dc in each stitch around. Join. (72 sts)

Continue until the hat measures about 7.5–8 inches tall.

Add more rounds if you want slouch.



8. Brim (Rounds 15–17): Switch to front post double crochet (FPdc) and back post double crochet (BPdc) for ribbing:

Round: Ch 2, FPdc around first st, BPdc around next st — repeat around. Join.

Do 2–3 rounds for a snug ribbed brim.



9. Finish: Fasten off, weave in ends, and add a pom-pom if you like. 🎀
