Fredrikstad Mekaniske Verksted (FMV), originally written Fredriksstad Mek. Verksted, was a workshop and shipyard on Kråkerøy by the Vesterelva in Fredrikstad. The workshop was established in 1870 and between 1873 and 1987 443 boats and various vessels (dredges, barges, floating cranes) were delivered from FMV - an average of three to four deliveries each year. The original FMV was closed down in February/March 1988. At that time the workforce was down to 650 men. The competition from East Asia took a toll on several Scandinavian shipyards at the time (for example Uddevallavarvet).
The workshop was established in 1870 by the brothers Jens Jacob and Andreas Jensen and brother-in-law Knud Dahl. At the time of establishment, the main product was machinery for the timber industry. The first boat to be built was the towboat "Dragon" in 1873. Paul Holmsen, who was manager, built the workshop into a significant business. At the beginning of the 20th century, FMV developed into one of Norway's largest shipyards.
