Описание: Road trip from Karlovac to Rijeka along the historic Lujzijana road, which is one of four famous historic roads (Lujzijana, Karolina, Jozefina, Rudolfina), crossing the mountainous regions of Croatia (Gorski Kotar and Lika) and connecting continental and coastal parts of Croatia. Once the older Karolina road (built in 1728) no longer met transportation needs of increasingly industrialized Europe, a new road was commissioned to be built between 1803 and 1811. This road, one of the most modern European roads of the early 19th century, was quite an achievement of contemporary road engineering as it had to overcome steep mountainous regions which were, up to then, believed to be impassible. At the time of this project's completion, Filip Vukasović, designer of the Lujzijana road, had a following inscription carved in stone: per gli increduli (to those who won't believe). It was placed at a the ending of a steep canyon leading into the city of Rijeka, long thought to be completely closed to road-builders.
