This 1960s bathroom remodel definitely didn’t go down without a fight.
In Part 1 of this bathroom renovation here in Waco, Texas, we kick things off with full demolition and the beginning of the rebuild process. The original 300-pound cast-iron tub, outdated tile surround, old flooring, vanity, and toilet all had to go.
Once demo started, we uncovered hidden issues—including water damage and termite damage—so we repaired and replaced compromised framing before moving forward the right way.
In this phase of the project, we:
Removed the cast-iron tub and old tile surround
Demoed flooring, vanity, and toilet
Upgraded and repositioned the drain for a new walk-in shower
Repaired water and termite damage
Installed a new energy-efficient frosted window
Framed in a custom shower niche
Added a new exhaust fan and wall switch for proper ventilation
This bathroom is being rebuilt with modern finishes, including 12x24 marble-look tile on the walls and floors and a gray hex mosaic shower pan—all coming together in Part 2.
