I had the opportunity to talk with Louisiana’s winningest college baseball head coach, Joe Scheuermann, at the 2025 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Introduction Ceremony.
In our interview, we discussed travel baseball, what the game means to him, and how he’s navigated the balance between today’s evolving “swag” and the old-school values of discipline, fundamentals, and love for the game. At the core of it all, he spoke about why he loves baseball and why that passion still drives everything he does.
Across 34 seasons at Delgado Community College, Scheuermann became Louisiana’s all-time wins leader, surpassing 1,177 career victories and joining an elite group of coaches to reach 1,000 wins at a single school. He led Delgado to five JUCO World Series appearances, 14 consecutive NJCAA Region titles, and 17 Super Regional berths, while helping 300+ players advance to four-year programs.
