Here we present a three-part series on "Transcendent Skills of the Meiji Era to Contemporary Art " from "Introduction to Japanese Arts and Culture" offered at the Global Support Center of Tokyo University of the Arts.

Over recent years it has become necessary to reexamine and reevaluate the intrinsic value of Japanese culture from many perspectives and disseminate the results of these reevaluations across the globe to people with vastly different cultural backgrounds and specialized fields.
A post-colonial reevaluation of the cultural narrative provided in a foreign language allows for a critical perspective to access aspects of Japanese culture for Japanese and international students alike.
In this lecture series we will examine some of the specialized fields in which Tokyo University of the Arts educates its students and conducts research so as to help students understand the doctrines of each field—in English—in a systematic manner with a historical perspective.
With the goal of fostering artists and their ability to expand their activities around the world, this course seeks to help young artists convey what they have learned to the world in English.
