Howdy ya’ll. Today we will dive deep into the first photographs ever taken of Prague, the capital and largest city of The Czech Republic. Throughout most of recorded history, Prague was the substantially well-built capital of Bohemia.
In modern times the metropolitan area of Prague is home to over 2.3 million people. Within the heart of the Old Town of Prague exists some of Europe’s greatest and most seldom discussed architecture. The photographs, taken by Andreas Groll, are dated to roughly 1854 through 1856.
In nearly every image you’ll notice undeniably complex architecture, the massive stones of construction, as well as the adornments and technology on the buildings - the Antiquitech. What’s remarkable, at least in this specific region of Old World Europe, is that the first photographers were considered to be “Artists of Technology”, and were almost always sponsored by an institute or university; Polytechnics.
Let’s look at the oldest photographs ever taken of Prague, Czech Republic - enjoy!
