Djupivogur is a very small tender port on the eastern coast of Iceland. It is the gateway to many popular trekking destinations. Visitors can access the Vatnajokull Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site complete with ice caves and waterfalls, the Vestrahorn mountains overlooking the Stokksnes, Hengifoss waterfall as well as canyons, rivers, and volcanoes. We took a 4x4 to reach some of the highest peaks and were able to dip our toes in freshwater streams, while enjoying waterfall views. Reindeer grazing at the side of the road were common and made for great photos.
