In the early 1900s, America wasn’t just dreaming about speed—it was building it.
Meet Glenn Curtiss, a fearless mechanic from New York who wanted to go faster than anyone on Earth.
In 1907, he created something wild: the Curtiss V8 Motorcycle.
This wasn’t your regular bike.
It had a massive 4,000 cc V8 engine, originally designed for an airplane!
No gears. No brakes. Just raw power, thunder, and courage.
On January 24th, 1907, Curtiss rolled his machine onto the sands of Ormond Beach, Florida.
People thought he was insane.
But then—he took off.
The roar of that V8 echoed across the coast as he hit an unbelievable 136 miles per hour, or about 219 kilometers per hour.
Remember—this was 1907!
No helmets, no safety gear, just a man and a beast of metal and fire.
That record made him the fastest man on Earth.
And even though the Curtiss V8 never became a mass-produced bike, it became a legend—
a symbol of the moment America proved it could outpace the world.
Today, that motorcycle sits in a museum, but its spirit still lives on in every roaring engine built for speed.
Because sometimes… history isn’t written with ink—
it’s burned into the road
