Guidelines for Comments AKA How to write a comment that won’t get deleted:

1. Only write comments that you would want to read. If someone texted your comment to you, would you be okay with it? If the answer is anything but an immediate and enthusiastic “yes!” then maybe try again.
a. The goal is to make the comments section a pleasure to read for all participants, so no one has to dread going to the comments section and seeing something that insults their personhood. That takes a lot of work, and the only way to make it work is if we share the responsibility. Your parts to make sure your comments are
b. If Amelia doesn’t respond with an enthusiastic “yes!”, and deletes your comment, don’t worry. There are no dire consequences, and Amelia is not judging you. She absolutely knows the struggle of trying to make a sentence sound like what you mean. Just rephrase and try again. No limits on how many well-intentioned tries you make. No big deal.
c. If multiple tries are not obviously well-intentioned, Amelia will block you. Racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, sizeist, anti-science, religiously intolerant, and all other obviously asshole flavored language as well as dog-whistle bigotry will be reported, and Amelia will be judging you. Her obviously far-left politics make her tolerant of everything except other people’s intolerance. That may be contradiction; but very well, she contradicts herself. She is large, she contains multitudes.
2. Share your own experience without reference to anyone else.
a. Make “I” statements such as “I experienced this.” They don’t literally have to start with “I,” they really just have to be about you, not about other people.
b. Comparisons are unnecessary, so don’t worry if your comment seems to stand alone and not be related to other comments.
c. It’s also nice to respond to someone else’s comments, and can be inspiring for more people than just you and the original commenter to share perspectives with each other and everyone else. Just be sure to follow guidelines in #2 (below).
3. Read and respond to other people’s comments with a spirit of curiosity, not judgement.
a. Don’t tell anyone else they are wrong (including Amelia).
i. If someone gets a fact wrong that really matters, Amelia will deal with it.
ii. If someone gets a fact wrong that doesn’t matter, Autism might tell you that you have a responsibility to the universe to correct them; but Autism is lying to you! You don’t have to set the record straight for no other reason than the inherent superiority of accuracy over inaccuracy. And if you try, Amelia will delete your comment. And you can scream “but I was right” at your computer screen, and you probably were, but we’re not here to “be right.” We’re here to share our own experiences.
iii. If someone has a different experience from yours, they are not wrong, they just have a different experience from yours. Their experience is valid, and so is yours.
b. Feel free to say, “My experience is different from yours,” and remember that a variety of experiences is not only normal and natural, but exactly what we’re looking for here.
